Of all the humans in all of Galtimer, General Reginald is easily among the top 5 most powerful. Despite or because of his ruthless introduction, the sinister general was a fan favorite of my 20+ Beta Readers. He’s a complicated character with a backstory that will slowly unfold as the series goes on. Book 3, “Magic Duels and Massacres” bounces back and forth between the main crew and Reginald so much that I devoted half of the title to him.

Like half of my protagonists, Reginald is a prodigy. He took up the sword as a child and now, at the age of 21, has a technique that is limited only by his featherweight boxer frame. Outside of his home kingdom of Lumidia, his reputation precedes him wherever he goes. Is he possessed by a daemon? Did he kill his second in command for saying “are you sure?” instead of “Yes Sir.” Can he fly with bat-like wings? Does he devour the souls of those who cross him? Did he catch an assassin’s arrow in his sleep? Did he truly sell his soul to The Daemon King, Baelumn?

“...you’d do best to believe most of the rumors about my abilities.”

Within the Lumidian army, the rumors are seen differently. No battalion under him has lost a battle. To the soldiers in his charge, he is seen as a no-nonsense, all-business, daemon-possessed warrior. They hear that entire platoons have come home from skirmishes without a single casualty. The man has entered battlefields alone and left fields of blood in his wake. Yes… orders to join him in battle mean almost certain return with grand tales to tell. Defeat him and bards will write songs about you… chances are, however, that your last painful moments will be forgotten… or told as just another fantastical rumor about him.
